O'ahu Family Court Offers Free Divorce Law Seminar

The Hawai`i State Judiciary will present a free informational program, "Divorce Law in Hawai`i," from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, in the Supreme Court courtroom on the second floor of Ali`iolani Hale, 417 South King Street in downtown Honolulu.

Attorney William C. Darrah will provide an overview of Hawai`i law as it relates to custody and visitation, division of property and debt, child support, alimony, and other divorce issues. He will also talk about the steps in the legal process of divorce and the resources available to someone going through a Hawai`i divorce.

Darrah has practiced divorce law in Hawai`i for more than 30 years. A trained divorce mediator, arbitrator, and settlement master, and the editor of the Hawai`i State Bar Association's Hawai`i Divorce Manual and Journal of Hawai`i Family Law, he has taught numerous family law education programs to Hawaii's judges, lawyers and members of the public since 1979.

"Divorce Law in Hawai`i" is presented by the Judiciary on a monthly basis as a public service. For more information, contact the First Circuit Court Operations Office at 539-4448 or visit the Judiciary Web site at courts.state.hi.us.

Did You Know?

There is a definition for marital status.
Marital status refers to the lawful recognition of the agreement between a man and a woman to be husband and wife. Along with the legal marital status of being married, the husband and wife acquire rights and obligations to their respective spouses. The rights and obligations begin when the couple is married and may continue, to a certain extent, even after the termination of the marriage. A family lawyer can help you further define marital status in your state.
